How Booking a Cefalù Boat Works

Four steps from search to the swim stop.

  1. Pick Your Length and Hull

Two hours for a swim and the old town from the water; three for the full coast-to-coast with three swim stops; six for the working fishing boat. Catamaran for stability, mini yacht for deck space, private if you want the boat to yourselves.

  2. Check the Date, Not Just the Trip

Most boats run two or three fixed departures a day and the late one goes first. Book through the availability calendar to see the real times and remaining seats for your date, and reserve free — you pay nothing today on most listings.

  3. Find Porto Presidiana, Not the Old Harbour

Almost every boat leaves from the marina at Località Presidiana, about 1.5 km west of the cathedral — not the little harbour below the old town. Allow 20 minutes on foot or take a taxi, and arrive 15 minutes early. Boats sail on time.

  4. Watch the Wind, and Keep the Cancellation

This is a north-facing coast: a northerly can cancel a sailing at short notice. Every boat here carries free cancellation up to 24 hours, so hold your slot, check the forecast the day before, and keep a second evening in reserve if the sea day matters.

Pescaturismo

The One Boat in Cefalù That Is Actually Working

Six hours, a full lunch from the morning's catch, and no toilet. All three matter.

Not a boat tour with a fishing theme

Pescaturismo is a regulated Italian category: a licensed commercial fisherman permitted to take paying guests on a genuine working trip. It is not a costume. The nets you watch come up were set in the sea the previous day, what is in them is whatever is in them, and the lunch is cooked from it.

That makes this the odd one out among Cefalù’s boats, and the reason to book it is that it is the only one where the day has a purpose beyond your own enjoyment. It is also the highest-rated trip on this coast that is not a private charter: 4.95 across 45 reviews, with the skipper named in almost every one.

How the six hours break down

You meet at 08:20 at the harbour, by the barrier onto the central quay near the fuel pump, and leave at 08:30. The run out to the fishing ground takes a while, and that time is spent being told how a fisherman reads the sea — where the ground shelves, why the nets go where they go.

Then the nets come up. This is the part that either lands or does not: it is slow, it is wet, and what appears is unpredictable. The reviews suggest most people find it the best hour of the day.

After that the boat anchors in the cove at Santa Lucia for a swim and a snorkel, which is not a consolation stop — it has the clearest water on this coast, better than either of the two bays the standard three-hour trips use.

Lunch is cooked on board while you are there: bruschetta, a seafood first course, and the fried catch of the day, with local white wine, beer or a soft drink included. You are back at the quay around 14:30.

Three things to know before you book

There is no toilet and no shower. On a six-hour trip. This is a working fishing boat and it has neither, and it is comfortably the most common reason people wish they had read the listing more carefully. Use the facilities at the harbour, and factor it into what you drink.

It is cancelled more often than the coastal boats. The fishing ground is further offshore than the tour boats go, so the sea has to be properly settled. Free cancellation up to 24 hours protects your side of it and the operator refunds in full when they call it off — but do not make this the only sea day in a short trip.

The lunch is built from the catch. Which means it cannot be a fixed menu, and it is not suitable for guests with food allergies or gluten intolerance. Tell the operator in advance if either applies. Babies under one are not accepted, so it suits older children at best.

Is $93 good value?

Hour for hour it is the best on this coast, and by some distance: six hours and a cooked lunch with a drink against $58–66 for three hours and an aperitivo. Per hour that is roughly $15 against $20, with a meal rather than snacks.

But it is not a longer version of the same day. If what you want is the old town from the water, three swim stops and a prosecco at anchor, the three-hour boats do that better and get you back for the afternoon. Book the fishing boat because you want to see the nets come up — everything else about it follows from that, including the six hours and the missing WC.

If a shorter day with food is closer to what you had in mind, the mini yacht at $116 serves a full open bar with bruschetta and fruit over three hours, and one of the private charters includes pizza and fresh fruit. Neither involves a net.

"We absolutely loved this boat tour! ⚓️🎣 It was such a fantastic experience from start to finish, with fishing, beautiful views, and plenty of fun. It was especially great for our child — he enjoyed every minute of it and were so excited to be part of the fishing experience! Our host was absolutely wonderful — friendly, welcoming and made the whole trip feel so special. And the food was fantastic too, which made the experience even better! 😍 Highly recommended for families and generally anyone looking for a fun, relaxing and memorable day out on the water. "A fantastic day. I recommend it to everyone! Giovanni is a very kind and patient person, and he explains things perfectly in both English and Italian. The fish we ate was delicious, and seeing the fish caught right in front of you is truly an incredible experience! The sea is also wonderful. In short, it's worth it 💕 There are few people on the boat, and you can enjoy every moment."
